Rex Rabbit Shedding Excessively

It looks like your rabbit is loosing hair or shedding, well it is! molting is when a rabbit looses its coat (shedding) and grows a new coat, this is also known as blowing their coat. a molt can last from 2 to 6 weeks, or more, it varies from rabbit to rabbit and from breed to breed. the rabbit molts regularly at different stages in its life.. Rabbits can digest quite a bit of hair during their molt, but because bunnies do not have the ability to "hack" one up, they must digest it. that is one of the reason a high fiber diet, eating lots of hay, and drinking enough clean water is important. there is sort of myth - a hairball myth they call it, in the rabbit world.. My mini rex doesn't bother my allergies that badly compared to cats and dogs. i had read that rabbits shed twice a year (major sheds.) this last shed i discovered that "twice a year" means well over a month each time! i used the lint roller as well, or slightly damp hands/paper towel..

Mini rex are one of the most popular rabbit breeds, and its not hard to see why. these small, compact rabbits have thick fur coats that come in a rainbow of rich colors. the best feature of these little rabbits is their super-soft rex fur, which is composed almost entirely of plushy undercoat.. It is also important that they have visual contact with other rabbits, an area to withdraw to, a shelf for resting on, and a clear visual field to see what is taking place about them. the lack of any of these basic needs can produce stress, behavior problems and possibly excessive shedding.. Unlike a rex rabbit, the mini plush lop is smaller and has floppy lopped ears just like a holland lop. something exciting about a mini plush lop is its lack of excessive shedding like most rabbit breeds, making it an ideal house rabbit. mini plush lops will molt twice a year, but after the molt is over, no excessive shedding!.
