Dented eyes are common in snakes that are dehydrated or who have previously retained eye sheds. thus, the eyecap may appear to be still on the eye when it fact it was shed off. always check the sheds to see if the eyecaps have in fact shed.. However, from time to time, a snake�s shed will come off in pieces, and sometimes even stick and not come off all the way at all. this is not painful for the snake, but i can imagine it�s uncomfortable, like if you had sunburned, and you start pealing. also, if the stuck shed is over the snake�s eyes, this can cause health problems.. Best answer: i've had this problem before with my python and there are several things you can do help it along. this is caused by a lack of humidity in the tank (or so my vet tells me), so it sounds like you need to adjust the temperature or the amount of water you are keeping in the tank..
Re: our snake is going through a bad shed.(head & neck skin remains) so she now was soaked for the 5th day in a row tonight and still her head skin and spectacles remain. as of 2 days ago her eyes are no longer "dented" so i guess that means she is at least no longer dehydrated so that is a baby step in the right direction i guess.. Your snake's eyes will turn a cloudy, bluish color. this is because the eye cap�a specially adapted scale which covers the eye�has loosened up in order to be shed along with the skin, becoming sort of a temporary filter over the eye. just prior to shedding, the eyes will clear up again.. If all goes well, the snake's old skin will be discarded in a pile in its cage. remove the old skin and check your snake to make sure all of the old skin came off. causes of & solutions for shedding problems.
